Working it Out
I had my first full fledged call with my Career Coach today. It went really well and I am happy with the advice and progress I am and will make.
She asked me to do a simple exercise to visualize what a happy work environment would entail. For me this ended up not being such an easy thing, and I became pretty emotional. What came out was that I don't want to disappoint my parents, however I don't feel that their ideas of what I should do are what I want to do and ultimately therein lies the rub. My counselor was understanding that parents can have a big influence, especially when you are living with them, BUT I need to do what I want to do because it is my life.
It's not that this is a revelation, I KNOW this. I still feel this pressure to get a job and be uber successful and all that comes with it. I am 34 years old, I need to get over that. It's my life. I've got to do my own thing, no matter what. She was very understanding and she reiterated that things like that are part of the process and that as a life coach as well she deals with all sorts of reactions. We got through and moved forward, and it was good.
What was my happy place? A place that is vibrant, creative and interesting. My mind immediately went to a Museum. So I will be looking into using my marketing skills to benefit museums.
Website development was another avenue as was marketing sustainability and environmental initiatives with integrity and not "greenwashing".
Movies and music are also great loves of mine, however I have not found a way to make a decent living at either of these. I am still pondering that, and they may end up being nice hobbies on the side of my career.
In an effort to continue my crazy life, I made reservations last night to fly to Orlando, Florida Thursday to visit my good friend Nate. We have been talking about me coming down to do Disney and Universal for a few years now and I figured, why not now? Thursday will be hanging out poolside and then Friday is Disney, Saturday is a car show on Disney property that will feature Nate's friends who own a replica Delorean from Back to the Future (complete with Flux Capacitor and Mr Fusion and al the bells an whistles)then Sunday will be Universal and then I fly home Monday. Another note of interest is that the Batmobile from the 1989 Tim Burton original is there also as well as the Ghostbusters ambulance... 2 Batmobiles in one year! Are you crazy? I LOVE IT!
Also, psyched about the new Doors Documentary "When You're Strange". Hoping to see it when it comes to a theater nearby. Been listening to a lot of Mr Mojo Risin in preparation. Check out the teaser trailer at my I SPY blog
Thanks to all of you who have commented and read through all of my issues especially lately. I appreciate it and your comments have given me strength to continue with my journey. Sometimes the burdens and worries I carry are too much, and that is where my blog comes in as an outlet. Thanks for your patience!
I am either breaking out of my shell or going completely insane...Either way, it's all worth it!
