A Birthday for Butler

Gerard Butler, otherwise known as Gerry, has been one of my favorite actors since his portrayal of Attila in the 2001 USA network's telling of the tyranical ruler's life. I thought I would share a bit of his filmography in celebration of his birthday yesterday, November 13th. He's also a scorpio!!!

Firstly Dracula 2000: made ironically in 2000, Gerry plays Dracula. This story is an interesting modern twist on the age old blood sucker legend.

Then there was Attila in 2001. The USA Network did a miniseries which was really good. Thank goodness they even put miniseries on DVD now!!
Above, Attila at his wedding celebration. Below, Attila dressed in Roman attire. You know what they say, "When In Rome".

Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life: 2003. Starring opposite one of my favorite actresses Angelina Jolie, Gerry played sly Terry Sheridan and brought Lara to the Shay Ling...The Shay who?

Above: Admiring the Orb. Below before boarding a helicopter with Lara.

Next he portrayed Ander Merek in the (unfortunately less than worthy)film adaptation of one of my most favorite books by Michael Crichton : Timeline!

How much more perfect a role could he have played?...handsome Archaeologist travels back in time to meet his true love...*sigh* Here is a pic of Merek in 14th century France:

In 2004, Gerry took ono the role of the Phantom and did an amazing job with every aspect. Too bad he had to wear a mask the entire time!!!

Gerrard has been in quite a few movies, but is not as well known as most movie stars you think of. The following is a short list of his movies I have not seen and would like to see.

Reign of Fire A brood of fire-breathing dragons emerges from the earth and begins setting fire to everything, establishing dominance over the planet. Starring Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale. 2002

Dear FrankieAfter having responded to her son's numerous letters in the guise of his father, a woman hires a stranger (Gerard Butler) to pose as his dad when meeting him. 2004

Beowulf & Grendel Adapted from the Anglo-Saxon epic poem, Beowulf, BEOWULF & GRENDEL is a medieval adventure that tells the blood-soaked tale of a Norse warrior's battle against the great and murderous troll, Grendel. Gerry portrays the lead role of Beowulf. In theaters 2005, but nowhere near me apparently!!!

Frank Miller's 300B ased on Frank Miller's graphic novel, "300" concerns the 480 B.C. Battle of Thermopylae, where the King of Sparta (Butler)led his army against the advancing Persians; the battle is said to have inspired all of Greece to band together against the Persians, and helped usher in the world's first democracy. In Theaters 2006

Two lesser known and harder to find movies of Gerry's are: The Tale of the Mummy:1998 and The Jewel of the Sahara 2001. I think everyone can see why I would want to see these besides the fact that Gerry is in them! Good subject matter! One career move that would benefit him greatly is if he played the role of my boyfriend in real life! Just a (psychotic) suggestion! ;) tee-hee.

So that's Gerry Butler! Great actor and not to bad to look at. Hopefully you will all get a chance to see some of his movies if you haven't already!

Reign of Fire is overated....the directors had a really good idea then they messed the whole thing up with a lousy storyline that's hard to follow and worse, boring.

From the previews it looks like you get to see some major Commando VS Dragon fighting. Not true. Instead of seeing F-16s chasing dragons thoasands of feet in the air(which would be VERY cool)you get to see some idiots jumping out of a helicopter with a net.

Oh yeah and what do they use to shoot dragons? High powered sniper rifles with uranium tipped bullets? M-16s? 12-gauge shotguns? NO! Instead we get to see them use an effin crossbow. Yeah, that's right a crossbow.

And so, you have the usual case of screenwriters starting out with a really good idea and then totally screwing it up with an un-original storyline that lacks any creativity.

Dang I'd like to screenwrite a remake....

I beleive that Pie Hole (AKA Old Yeller) did get wipelash from the incident. The wipelash was aresult of her hind den being to big for the seat in her Ford motorcar. The deers did not know that their cover had been compromised by a member of the local flock of crows who frequented the area. It is rumored that this crow was paid cash money for the info.
